Focus on Your Purpose
Yes it is true, what you think about will manifest into your everyday life. There is a scripture that says, “to guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23, NIV). I really don’t think we, (definitely millennials) understand the importance of this. There are so many things around us that will instantly take our focus off of the purpose God has for us if we aren’t grounded in our faith and disciplined on our path.
I’ve learned that you really have to disconnect yourself from certain things in order to get to where you need to be. What exactly are you feeding your mind to get to the level of success you want to reach?
There are so many different ways you can feed your mind positive information to help you on your success journey. Here are a few of my favorites:
Reading is Essential
Now, I’m a lover of books, my kindle library is full as well as my bookshelf, I always have people asking me for book suggestions. As you grow you realize that every little thing you feed your mind is important. The same way you have to re-evaluate your eating habits when you are attempting a weight loss journey, is the same thing you have to do for your success journey.
I had a library full of books, my favorites were Urban Fiction (no shade to anyone who is a lover of these). I would spend the majority of my free time reading these books, but as I grew I realized that I needed to change my reading habits. I developed a love for self-help, financial literacy, and leadership books.
These books would give me tools to be successful that Urban Fiction books never would. Those books were full of drama, chaos and while yes, they held my attention, it didn’t help change my attention to important areas that needed work. I’ll save the book review for another blog, but here are a few of my favorite books that can really help get your mind right!
Listen to Podcasts
Not everyone likes to read, but just about everyone wants something to listen to throughout the day. Podcasts have become a big thing recently, I mean just about everyone is launching a podcast. I’ve learned that just as I have to be mindful about what I read, who I surround myself with and the things I do on this success journey, I also have to be intentional about what I listen to.
One of my favorite podcasts to listen to is “Women Evolve with Sarah Jakes Roberts”
Learn to Network
This is SO IMPORTANT, I don’t think the importance of networking can be stressed enough. It doesn’t really matter how many social media followers you have, if you don’t get outside and attend a few networking events. How will people know who you are and who is representing your brand if you never get out there and talk about it?
Networking opens up a lot of doors, I recently attended a networking event for young professionals and entrepreneurs and got to meet people social media wouldn’t have introduced me to. It’s okay to work with the people you have known from day one, but as you grow you have to increase your network.
Your Network is your networth
Take a Certification Class
Knowledge is power, if you want to be successful you need to have information. Anyone who isn't willing to learn, isn't willing to grow. Being certified in the lane you're in gives you a different level of credibility. There are many online schools that are nationally accredited and you can complete a certification class in the specific field you are interested in. Don't let anything hold you back.
And last but certainly not least....
Drop the Excuses
"Excuses are for losers"
We have all heard this saying before, and let's be real...it's true. Excuses limit you, excuses slow you down and ultimately if you have one for everything..they control you. If you want to succeed, JUST DO IT! Make up your mind today that you won't let anything get in the way of your success! The amount of time we waste on excuses could be used to just get the job done.
Watch what happens when you focus on your purpose....your whole life will change!
If you want to go to different levels you have to think at higher levels.
